Admission process:
General Information for Certificate, 
Diploma & Adv. Diploma

1. The Department admits students to (i) One Year Certificate 
Course in Urdu, (ii) One Year Diploma Course in Urdu, and (iii)
 One Year Advanced Diploma Course for Foreign and Non-Urdu Knowing
 Indian Students.

2. Applications on the prescribed form should reach the Department
 as per schedule announced and should be addressed to the Head of 
the Department of Urdu, University of Delhi.

Qualifications of admission:

3. Candidates having passed class 12 examination conducted by 
different examination boards of different states/union territories
 will be eligible for admission to the Certificate Course in Urdu.

Age Requirement:

A candidate should not be less then 17 years of age as on 1st day 
of October of the year in which the admission is sought.

4. Admissions:

After submitting the applications, candidates shall be required to
 appear for a personal interview with the Head of the Department on
 a fixed day, if necessary.  The list of candidates selected/called
 for interview will be displayed on the Departmental Notice Board.

Those admitted to the Course must pay the prescribed fees to the 
Cashier of the University at the Office of the Registrar.  The 
receipt for fees paid must be shown to be office of the Department 
before the first lecture of term.

5. A candidate should have 75% of attendance to be eligible to 
appear in the annual examination.  Irregularity in either 
attendance or home work will not be condoned.

6. Examination:

In Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Course there shall be 
an annual University Examination at the end of March each year.

The pass percentage for the Certificate Course is 40% aggregate of
 the written papers and 40% in the Viva-Voce.

The pass percentage for the Diploma/Advanced Diploma is 40% in each
 written paper/Viva-Voce and 40% in aggregate.

Distinction is awarded to candidates securing 75% marks in 
      On completion of one year, students successful at the 
Certificate Course examination will be eligible for award of 
Certificate of Proficiency in Urdu.  Only after successful 
completion of Certificate or Diploma Course students may be 
admitted to the Diploma Course or Advanced Diploma Course

Note:  The Candidates who were students to any of the above 
Course during the last one-year shall not be readmitted to the 
same Course.  They may reappear in the examinations as ex-students
 if otherwise eligible.

General Information for POST M.A. 

 Every candidate seeking admission to the diploma course in Urdu 
 paleography must have:
a) Passed the M.A. examination in Urdu of the University of Delhi
  or an equivalent examination with at least 50% marks in the 
b) Good knowledge of Persian.
c) An aptitude for research and textual criticism.
    Since diploma course in Urdu paleography is full time 
    specialized research course, no candidate employed anywhere
    can seek admission to it. Exception may, however, be made by 
    the Department in case of teachers or archivists or 
    librarians dealing with manuscripts.
        Admission committee shall interview the candidates. 
    The decision of the admission committee of the department shall
    be final.

General Information for POST M.A. 

     Every candidate seeking admission to the One-Year Post M.A.
  Diploma Course in Translation and Mass Media must have
  passed the M.A. examination in Urdu with at least 50% marks in
  the aggregate and possess a good reading knowledge of 
  Persian/English and /or at least one Modern Indian Language.

  An admission committee comprising of the head of the Urdu 
  department and two readers in the university department 
  shall interview the candidates and the selection shall be made
  on the basis of the aptitude of the candidates. The decision 
  of the admission committee of the department shall be final.
